9 October 2000 - Dave Baran ('83)

Greetings!

Hope things are well at VU, I'm sorry that I'll be missing the festivities. My family and I will be in New Orleans for my brother-in-law's wedding. Too bad!

Just some news for now. I've been promoted! I now head the "Chemical Analysis Division" at NBL. I am the direct supervisor of 10 chemists. How did a physicist get into such a mess? Where did I go wrong?! I'm also still participating in the Russian program. I'm schedule for December, January 2001, April 2001, and September 2001 trips. I'm also one of the three US hosts when the Russians come to visit the US on their own monitoring visit. (They have the right to assure themselves that we are not using the material from them in our own weapons program). The Russians will visit Portsmouth, Ohio, Wilmington NC, and Columbia SC Oct 16-27.

More importantly, I can't remember if I e-mail you, we had an addition to our family on May 24 - Sarah Elizabeth was 20.5" and 8 lbs 2 oz. She is my third daughter. I'm very afraid!
