21 June 1999 Becky (Deutsch) Douthitt ('97)

I was recently on the internet and decided to check up on the Physics Department. The size of the class has grown over the last few years since Rob Bernhard and I were there. I am currently a Quality Assurance Manager at an oil analysis laboratory in Cleveland, Ohio. On a day to day basis I am using more physics and analytical thinking that I ever thought I would with a BA in German! The instruments that we have in our lab include a Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer and an Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP) Spectrometer as well as a kinematic viscometer, two pore blockage particle counters and one laser light blockage particle counter, direct read ferrographers and two Karl Fischer titrators. One of the main highlights of my position is that I get to oversee the results as well as the major maintenance of the instruments. I have also learned to read analytical ferrograms to determine wear and contaminants in oil. I always knew I loved the physics labs in college, but back then I never would of thought that what I was learning would come to play in every day life.

My husband and I are moving to the east side of Cleveland next week. I know that I didn't graduate with a major in Physics, (physics minor) but I would still like to be kept abreast of the news and events.
