15 July 2000 Elwyn Dolecek ('68)

A memorial service was held for Joyce Dolecek who died July 2000 after a battle with cancer for over nine years. She is survived by her husband, Elwyn and two sons, Tim (VU 2000) and Jeff who will matriculate at VU in fall, 2001. Elwyn has been a radiation health physicist at the Argonne National Laboratory since the completion of his Ph.D. at Rutgers University immediately after graduating from VU.

[Editor's note: I first met Elwyn in the fall of 1977 just after he joined the Occupational Health and Safety group at Argonne and I had just joined the physics faculty at VU in August 1977. Dr. Manning had just died one month earlier (July 1977) and I had several NRC licenses that needed to be updated to permit our use of the nuclear physics laboratories, including the reactor. Elwyn was very helpful during that time and has continued to provide valued aid for our radiation monitoring program at VU. He has also supervised the work of several VU physics majors in summer research at Argonne. (DDK) ]
