5 February 2001 - Julie (Engebretson) Helps ('00)

Your winter in Valpo sounds terrible - it has been about 40* all winter long here in Calgary, Alberta, Canada! We have had no major snowfalls yet, which is hurting the skiing industry, but I am loving it.

Well, we are still going through some major changes around here. I became a landed immigrant last week, which means I am officially legal. I am now able to apply for teaching certification in Alberta. I was hired on at the Science Centre in November when I obtained work authorization, and will finish there in March.

Here's the big news. My husband got a promotion which includes a move. We are moving to Regina, Saskatchewan in April where he and his boss will be starting up a new office (he works for a life insurance company.) Although the town will not be as nice as Calgary, I am really looking forward to the move. I will be working with the Regina Board of Education, starting out as a sub, and hopefully moving in to a permanent position soon.

I am more certain than ever that I want to continue my pursuits for a career in teaching. So, after one complete school year in Regina, we will be moving to a new location to open another office. We will be wanderers for about five years, but then we can settle down somewhere and never have to move again! Our e-mail address will be changing with the move, so I will be sure to send a quick e-mail once we get that set up.

I hope the rest of the semester goes well, as well as the upcoming spring break! Say hi to people there, and take care.

Julie
