I am an Actuarial Analyst working in benefits consulting. We help employers analyze cost and project costs for the benefits they provide to employees (health, life insurace, retirement, etc). I mainly work on defined benefit pension plans. After leaving VU, I worked for a year in the Healthcare & Group Benefits Practice of William M. Mercer, Incorporated (Chicago Office), and then for the Retirement Practice (Indianapolis Office) for the past 2.5 years.
While studying physics at VU, I enjoyed the analytical nature that is inherent to the study of physics (or math or actuarial science). On a day to day basis, I don't use physics, but I do use the problem solving skills I used in the study of physics. I am persuaded that having a degree in Physics by no means limits you in what you do after graduation.
