30 January 2001 - Ray Hively ('84)
I stopped by Valpo Monday; sorry I missed you. (Yikes! If you are going to publish the news, I guess I better write more often to keep it up to date!)
Orcad has been bought by Cadence Design Systems, so I now work for Cadence. Same desk, three different companies in the past 4 years.
The PSpice class that I was writing in the last news is off and running in a big way. I was on the road 28 weeks last year around the US and Canada teaching the class. Of course, now that we are Cadence the simulator is being integrated with the Cadence tools, so I have more classes to write. There are two other instructors teaching the class, so it really has turned into a good chunk of business.
I'm still based in S. California. Same house. The hybrid lilacs now bloom every spring and I am nearly ready to put in a greenhouse, if I ever get to stay home more than two weeks in a row. That will mean I can leave the orchids set instead of hauling them all into the kitchen every winter.
We just took a vacation to the eastern Caribbean on a cruise. Our luggage was lost on the way there, Florida was 40 degrees when we arrived (my jacket was in the suitcase), and my house was broken into while we were away. Despite all of that and the jelly fish stings during the mangrove kayaking adventure, we had a great time.
My new work e-mail is rhively@cadence.com
Besides traveling for work I am taking an HTML/Web graphics class through the company on-line education. A conventional class would be impossible with my travel schedule.
Take care,
Ray
