24 September 1999 Carl Keller ('63)

I am the owner and Principal Scientist of a company based upon a number of my inventions related to underground fluid sampling, drilling, and relining of sewers. I have developed the concepts of our methods, written the patent applications, designed the fabrication techniques and equipment, done the marketing, and the installations in the field. The major function is applied science ranging from heat transfer to hydraulics, porous flow processes in the earth, pneumatics, mechanics, etc.... For example, we have just installed systems in Hudson Falls, NY for PCB mapping in fractured rock, installed color reactive mapping liners to map TCE/solvent at Cape Canaveral this Spring, installed cure in place liners in the walls of the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History in Jan. this year. Our methods are centered on the use of the everting/inverting flexible liner mechanism.

As an update on my work history since leaving VU --

'63-'66 Connecticut Advanced Nuclear Engineering Lab. writing radiation transport codes for reactor design.

'63-'65 Studied for MS degree at RPI graduate center in East Hartford. MS in '65 in Eng. Science/Nuc. Science

'66-74 Los Alamos Natl. Lab. designing containment systems for underground nuclear testing.

74-'85 Head of containment research and design for the Dept. of Defense for all DOD underground nuclear tests. Containment Science included the nanosecond time scale of nuclear explosions to the eons of geologic time and tectonic stress development. Learned much of the earth sciences, geophysics, drilling methods, mining, wrote models for flow and condensation of steam in the earth,.....

'85-present Working in the private sector. Started my own company in '96.

In 1994 I received the R&D 100 award, in Chicago.
