27 September 1999 Sandra (Kleinschmidt) Gade ('59)

Sandra Gade writes, "I'm a Professor of Physics in Physics/Astronomy Dept at U of Wisconsin Oshkosh. Obviously I teach physics and do research. I was department chair for a 6 year period in the late 80's to early 90's. After leaving Valpo, I went to graduate school in physics at University of Pittsburgh. After receiving my PhD in solid state-EPR and NMR, I(plus my husband and two young daughters) began my academic career at Oshkosh in 1966 and have been there ever science. My husband is also a Valpo Alum and received his PhD in mathematics from Pitt. He retired from the mathematics department about three years ago.

Message to any female majors: you can have your cake and eat it also. I married, had two children and had a full time academic career. Having a husband who shared equally in raising our kids was very important. Also having the kids in grad school rather than on the job was the easier way to do it."
