24 September 1999 - Richard Maupin ('99)

I'm a grad student with a research fellowship at Ball State. I'm working on both a master's in physics and licensure (for teaching high school). My fellowship duties are to: 1) assist in planetarium presentations (which we do for the public a few times and for schools by appointment) and 2) process and analyze data collected on red stars; we will use the data to study the structure of the Milky Way by seeing how red stars (particularly old stars, M-type stars) are distributed throughout the galaxy). On occasion, as was the case last week, I will go with a professor to the NURO (National Undergraduate Research Observatory) around Flagstaff, AZ. The observatory has a 31-inch telescope at the disposal of several universities.
