Hi Dr. K,
Things are going quite well here at GSFC [NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center]..my aircraft project is *still* keeping me busy because we found some anomalous results that suggested that the initial atmospheric model was slightyl botched up, and right now I'm running revised versions to see if we can't get more sensical results before we end up having to invent new physics. I'm also involved in another project now- carvingout a retrieval algorithm for these little handheld Ozone measuring devices. The company that makes them basically handed us a black box that turns signals from photdiodes into O3 readings, which vary in funky ways from instrument to instrument. So while I'm trying to quantify just how the instruments disagree with each other, two scientists here are busy trying to repeat the calculation done so nebulously by the instrument. It's pretty fun, although sitting in front of a 'puter all day instead of enjoying the sunshine is diffifult. Well, to remedy that, I get to climb to the roof of the building 3-4 times a day and make some ozone measurements.
I'm leaving for Toronto after Labor Day; I'll keep you updated on the experience!
Best wishes,
Lisa
[Editor's note: Beginning in September 2001, Lisa will begin her PhD sudies at the University of Toronto in atmospheric physics.]
