12 October 2000 - Aki Uenishi ('91)
Dear Dr. Koetke,
Thank you for sending an e-mail letting me know about Homecoming. It was really nice to hear from you and to find one of my old classmates visiting Valpo.
Unfortunately, I am not able to visit Valpo, as I am in Japan. I have changed my job and moved to my home town last month. I may have much less chance to visit Valpo than before. I hope to visit Valpo again while you are working at VU.
Please send my best regard to everyone whom I know and to Andy [Richter] for me if you have a chance. I really wish to join Andy`s lecture at COLLOQUIUM.
Aki
[Editor'snote: About 1.5 years ago, I walked out of my office into the corridor and there, standing talking with Prof.Zygmunt at the end of the corridor was Aki! A complete surprise! I greeted him and inquired of him how he got to Valpo from Japan. He said that he and his boss were in Detroit for business and because that finished early, he had a day to himself. He decided to come to Valpo for a visit -- so he rented a taxicab from Detroit to drive him round trip to Valpo. The cab driver waited about 1 hour while Aki visited here before driving him back to Detroit. We had an enjoyable visit. (DDK)]
