The Dept. of Physics and Astronomy at Valparaiso University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level, beginning in Fall 2005. Valparaiso is a highly regarded private university with 3000 undergraduates and is located 50 miles SE of Chicago. The Department consists of seven full-time faculty. Areas of active research include experimental high-energy physics, computational materials physics, experimental stellar astrophysics, and experimental atmospheric physics. The successful applicant must have an earned Ph.D. in physics or a related field. S/he must have a strong commitment to quality undergraduate teaching and be able to develop an experimental research program that can attract external funding and will involve undergraduates. Preference will be given to an applicant whose research either complements one of the department’s existing strengths or is in an interdisciplinary field (such as biophysics, medical physics, nanoscience, etc.). Candidates should be willing to work in a scholarly community committed to Christian higher education and the Lutheran tradition. Salary will be based upon teaching and research experience.
