Since 1983 the VU Department of Physics and Astronomy has been funded by the U. S. Department of Energy medium energy nuclear physics program for research in nuclear and elementary particle physics. Funding was approved again for 2001. The research program centers on experiments to test current theories in subatomic physics. These experiments are carried out at national laboratories which are the sites of large particle accelerators and at VU where the experiments are planned and the data analyzed. All of these experiments are collaborative in nature; VU is one of several US and Canadian universities as well as physicsts from national laboratories in the US and in Russia. Prof. Donald Koetke is the principal investigator for the VU research program and works closely with Prof. Robert Manweiler and Prof. Shirvel Stanislaus as well as Technical Specialist Paul Nord. From the research page you can also find lists of the recent publications by this research group.
