Prof. Hrivnak wins Hubble Space Telescope Viewing Time

January 1999

Prof. Bruce Hrivnak has reported that his Hubble Space Telescope proposal was awarded the observing time that was requested. The project is to continue the program of imaging the gas and dust shells around old stars for further study. He reported that, as with the previous funded HST proposal, the competition was very high. The observing cycle begins in summer 1999. He is in the process of preparing what is called the Phase 2 of the proposal process, which is to supply detailed instructions for the observing sequence to be sent to the telescope.

Some of the work which Prof. Hrivnak and Prof. Sun Kwok of the University of Calgary have done in collaboration was featured as the cover story in Sky and Telescope recently.
