August 2000
Prof. Brian Pickett joined the VU physics and astronomy faculty in fall 1999 to take Prof. Hrivnak's place while Prof. Hrivnak was away on sabbatical leave for the 1999-2000 academic year. Prof. Pickett's astronomy classes were taught with flair and enthusiasm, complete with some remarkable demonstrations. And, you have to love that tuxedo on the last day of class! Prof. Pickett is now on the physics faculty at Purdue-Calumet near Hammond, IN. The commute from his home in Hyde Park on Chicago's south side is less than half the distance he would drive to VU. We miss his friendly manner and his lively sense of humor. But, he is close enough that we can expect him to visit to give a colloquium now and then. You can contact him from his www page.
