The Department is a busy place this summer, 2000. VU reserach programs supported 10 VU students in research assistantships working with VU faculy on research in astronomy, condensed matter physics, and nuclear and elementary particle physics research. Research grants funded by outside funding agencies which supports these research programs paid the students' salaries and VU provided rooms for the students during the summer months. The students included sophomore students Steve Wolf and Nic George, junior students Benett Bootz, Kathy Cooksey and Jeff Eaton, senior students Christopher Hoffmann, Justin Lowry, Aaron Miller, and recent graduates Daniel Allen, Robert Greene, and Richard Maupin. In addition, Jon Thoms worked in a summer research position at Argonne National Laboratory, Jason Tomlinson worked at the National Weather Service, and Lisa Neef studied in Germany.
