Sophomore Jon Thoms

Selected to attend APS meeting in Santa Fe, NM

January 1999

Sophomore physics major, Jon Thoms' picture recently appeared on the front page of the January 1999 national publication of the American Physical Society, APS News along with other undergraduate students from across the country. Jon submitted his research work done at VU under Dr. Stanislaus as part of the nuclear and particle physics research program at VU sponsored by the Department of Energy. In the competition, Jon's work was accepted and he was awarded funds to attend the annual meeting of the Division of Nuclear Physics of the American Physical Society in Sante Fe, NM. There, he presented his work in two separate poster sessions, participated in the meeting at which researchers presented their work, and met with professionals from the community to discuss research and graduate school opportunities. There were special lectures, a tour of Los Alamos National Laboratory, and special receptions. Jon's poster presentation is currently on display in the Neils Science Center across from room 127.
